About
What is all this?
A puzzle hunt?
Yes! You can learn (a lot) more about puzzle hunts here. Here's the short version:
  • This is a set of puzzles! You start with access to the intro puzzle, located at the front door.
  • As you solve puzzles, you get more puzzles—specifically, when you solve a puzzle, you gain access to the rooms adjacent to the room whose puzzle you solved.
  • These puzzles culminate in a final "metapuzzle", which uses the answers from the other puzzles.
  • Solve this metapuzzle and your job is done!
Are the puzzles… hard?
The puzzles vary in difficulty, but we believe that on average, they're maybe slightly on the tougher side.
Who's "we"?
We're a group of puzzlers without a snappy name, but we're the first house on the right in the neighborhood!
Okay. Any notes on puzzle answers?
  • Each puzzle's answer is a word or phrase.
  • Answers use alphanumeric characters.
  • When submitting an answer, it will be converted to uppercase and all non-alphanumeric characters will be removed.
  • Some puzzles confirm subpuzzle answers or cluephrases by italicizing these guesses and marking them with ❗️. Puzzles that do this have a ⚠️ symbol in the guess panel; puzzles that do not have this symbol will only verify final puzzle answers.
There's one exception to the above—the intro puzzle does not have an answer like the other puzzles! Instead, you enter the house via the keypad.
Is there a leaderboard?
There is no leaderboard for this hunt, but teams that finish their renovations will appear in the neighborhood (in random order!) as a record of their accomplishments.
How many rooms (i.e. puzzles) are there?
The house has twelve rooms, in addition to the front doors (an intro puzzle) and a final task at the other side of the house (the metapuzzle).
How big can our renovation team be?
Your team can be as big as you like!
Are there any rules?
  • There is a guess limit of 20 for each puzzle. If you reach this limit and would like more guesses, email us at contact@islandpuzzlehunt.com.
  • Please be gentle—this hunt does not require solvers to do anything wacky with looking at or manipulating source code, automating requests, etc. In general, please don't try to break things, but of course, if you do find a bug, please let us know at contact@islandpuzzlehunt.com!
  • Resources like Google search are permitted (and encouraged)!
Is it okay to stream solves?
Yes! This hunt is non-competitive, so feel free to stream or collaborate however you like.
Will there be more Island Puzzle Hunts?
We hope so! Putting together this small, non-live hunt has helped us develop our processes and learn how to coordinate various parts of a puzzle hunt (e.g. tech, art, test-solving…) without the pressures and timelines involved in managing a live event. But we're working towards bigger things—stay tuned!
Does this house have any, like, bathrooms?
